NewsAir Maestro V3.1 Release
After the extensive Air Maestro V.3.0 release last year which included a branding update, the development team have released the next software update under a much shorter release cycle. Air Maestro V.3.1 updates include changes to the tooltips on custom fields and scheduling of Air Maestro reports in the reporting wizard. To see the full list of updates, please refer to the Development section below.

Flight & Duty App Launch
Launched in June last year, the iOS Air Maestro app allows users to enter their critical timesheets and flight records offline regardless of their location or internet connectivity. The customisable app allows users to:

  • Enter critical flight and duty information - regardless of location or internet connectivity
  • Customise and replicate existing Flight Records and Technical Logs then later report on this data through a Reporting module to capture additional information that may be specific to their operation
  • Eliminate physical copies of flight/technical logs and remove the associated potential data entry errors caused by manual entry

The app is free to download for existing Air Maestro customers via the Apple App Store. To enable the app for your company, please ensure you email the Avinet team at help@avinet.com.au first.

New offices
Mid last year, Avinet and our sister company Comunet moved from our offices on Frome Street to a newly furnished level of an office block overlooking the Veale Gardens on South Terrace. The office features a training room, meeting room, separate office and a kitchenette. Please make note of our new office address as follows:

eventsAvinet Team-Building Day, 12 January 2018
On Friday 12 January, Avinet spent the day involved in a number of fun activities that focused on team work and improved communication skills. The day commenced at the Adelaide Adventure Rooms where the team split into 2 groups and raced against one another using strategy and communication. The next stop was at the Adelaide Bowling Club for a bit of a laugh and some lunch. The final stop and the favourite activity for the day was a bike ride and drink on the HandleBar - an integrated bike and bar requiring strength and coordination from the entire team whilst riding throughout the streets of Adelaide.

 

Amazon Web Services (AWS) Conference, Vegas, 26-30 November 2017
Avinet’s Software Development Manager Matt Botting attended the AWS re:Invent conference in Las Vegas along with 43,000 attendees from around the world. The AWS Conference brought together customers from the cloud computing community to network, engage and learn more about AWS technology. It was a great opportunity to gain further in-depth knowledge on Amazon’s AWS infrastructure services already in use by Avinet in addition to other services that we are looking to further leverage to make Air Maestro as seamless as possible. Machine learning was just one of the 40 new features/services announced during the conference and is considered one of the most promising and advanced technologies to date. While in Vegas, Matt also met a number of Air Maestro customers including one client kind enough to provide an impromptu helicopter tour of the iconic Grand Canyon.

HAC Convention & Tradeshow, Ottawa, 9-11 November 2017
Avinet Business Development Manager, Phil Wu, and Avinet Canadian partner Liam McKeever attended the HAC Convention in Ontario in November last year. The Convention was a great opportunity for Avinet to introduce our first Flight & Duty App to the Canadian market which received some positive feedback. --

Upcoming Events

Heli-Expo, Las Vegas, 26 Feb-1 March 2018 
Avinet will be attending the largest rotary event on the calendar in the exciting US city of VEGAS! Heli-Expo has always been a favourite tradeshow of the Avinet team and 2018 will be no exception. Both newly appointed CEO Aleks Banas and Business Development Manager Phil Wu will be in attendance providing demonstrations of our new flight & duty app. Make sure you visit us at stand N2924 opposite Airbus as we are also giving away a FREE koala plush to the first 20 visitors! We have 2 styles to choose from so please quote either KOALAFLAG or KOALASWAG.

Global Training & Travel

In January, Customer Support Analyst Nina Wedding spent 2 weeks in Myanmar training customers Myanmar Airways International together with Air KBZ. Nina departed Adelaide on the 14th January and arrived in Yangon some 14 and a half hours later.

Throughout the 2 weeks, Nina assisted MAI and Air KBZ with their Air Maestro implementation. The entire team were very hospitable and went out of their way to make Nina feel like a VIP during her stay.

Whilst in Yangon, Nina also had the opportunity to go sight seeing and visited a number of stunning pagodas with the guidance of MAI and Air KBZ team members. The local sights were like nothing she had ever seen before and she is very grateful to have been given the opportunity to travel to such an interesting country.

After 2 weeks away, we're glad to have Nina return home safe and back in the office!

 

Development

A Word from our Lead Developer

After receiving mostly positive feedback from the Air Maestro v.3.0 release, the Avinet development team worked quickly to release the next version update under a much shorter release cycle. Air Maestro Version 3.1 contains the following major features:

  • Tooltips on custom fields – when setting up custom fields whether they be in the Flight Records, Safety, Forms or any other module of Air Maestro administrators can now define tooltips  that the end user can see whilst using that module. Previously this was achieved with the label control but this adds a way of providing the information without cluttering up the form.
  • Scheduling of Air Maestro reports – The reporting wizard has an additional step added to it which allows a schedule to be setup for the report to be run and then emailed to one or more users in a format of their choice.
  •  Aircraft availability notifications – as an extension to the aircraft availability module, emails and SMS can now be templated and sent to selected Air Maestro users or external parties as aircraft are taken offline or brought online through scheduled or unscheduled maintenance.
  •  Altering system aircraft types – Air Maestro is shipped with a register of Aircraft Types based upon the ICAO Doc 8643. This has always been able to be extended and modified by Avinet support staff at the request of clients. However it can now be added to and modified clients themselves although we are still more than happy to assist if required.

The next release will see a complete overhaul of Flight Records to further utilise the capabilities of modern browsers thus improving the workflow and making them more performant. Particularly as our clients are tracking more data with complex layouts often comprised of conditional fields.

Staff

New faces at Avinet

Liam Magee

Liam has a Bachelor of Information Technology (Game and Entertainment Design) which he completed at University of South Australia . He was previously contracted with DXC Technology (formerly Hewlett Packard Enterprises) as IT support for the Commonwealth Bank (South Australian Branch).

Liam usually spends his free time playing video games, developing video games or looking after his pet rabbits Leeloo and Luna.

Tim Hampton

Originally from Bendigo, Victoria, Tim likes to write in his spare time and has written and sold song lyrics to local bands when he was in high school. More recently, Tim has had film scripts reviewed and critiqued by a local film director. In addition to this, Tim served 4 years in the Royal Australian Navy as a Anti-Submarine Combat System Operator.

Mark Healy

Mark grew up in Mildura, Vic. He has been a software developer for 6 years however in his spare time, Mark is an actor on stage and screen. He has appeared in theatre for: Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?, When the Rain Stops Falling, Death of a Salesman and Rosencrantz and Guildernstern are Dead (coming soon).

Kyle Gray

Kyle is originally from Aberdeenshire in Scotland but enjoys living in Australia so close to the beach. He is an avid fan of travel and experiencing other cultures and enjoys reading autobiographies and watching documentaries. He likes to play golf, soccer, snowboarding and hiking in addition to playing the snare drum for several Scottish pipe bands.

Air Maestro Tips

Please see below for some interesting facts about Air Maestro that you may not be aware of:

1. Air Maestro users can create a task in the scheduler based off sunrise and sunset times for that day

2. The scheduler feature in Air Maestro has SMS text message capabilities

3. Users can set up global reports to be automatically generated and emailed to users based on a defined schedule. The report schedule setup can be found in step 5 of the reporting wizard

4. Custom email and SMS notifications can be set up to be sent to both Air Maestro personnel and external personnel when an aircraft status changes. The aircraft notification setup can be found via setup > aircraft notification setup

5. There are help videos and guides under the 'Help' tab in Air Maestro for more up to date information
