From the General Manager

authorWelcome to our last Avinet newsletter for 2016.

It has been a very eventful few months for the Avinet team. Featured below are some of the highlights from the last few months and our future plans:

Air Maestro Worldwide
As the year draws to a close, it is a good time to look back and reflect on our achievements and to look forward and plan for the year ahead. Avinet has experienced solid growth and expansion into new markets in 2016. I am excited to announce that we are now represented by over 210 customers in 35 countries in a range of industries including: Agriculture, Airline, Charter, EMS, Medical, Offshore and Rail.

Looking back on 2016
Since the beginning of the year, a lot of exciting things have happened and I wanted to share some of our accomplishments. We have expanded the capabilities of our products by incorporating new dashboard functionality, commencing the Air Maestro rebrand project and improving compliance with new work practice regulations. The development of our highly anticipated flight & duty app has been completed with a launch scheduled for January 2017. We also implemented a number of accounting, administrative and development systems and processes, enabling us to provide better support to our customers in the future.

An Exciting New Year
Avinet has a busy year planned for 2017. We will be starting off the year with our Air Maestro conference on the 8th and 9th of February in Adelaide to showcase our latest product features. The conference always provides many great networking opportunities and I look forward to welcoming you at the event.

We are committed to continuing to extend the capabilities of our products in 2017 with plans to update major modules such as Flight Records and Reporting. We are looking to streamline the Flight Records module, by adopting new technologies to improve performance and the user experience. We have commenced work on improving the Reporting module in 2016 and this will be continued in the New Year, with plans to warehouse data from a number of modules and improve the Report Builder functionality.

Along with improving our products, providing exceptional support remains a cornerstone at Avinet and our efforts in 2017 will be no exception. We are looking to launch a Knowledgebase for common product queries and improve our Helpdesk systems. We also have plans to expand our Support team early in the New Year.

Thank you!
On behalf of the Avinet Directors and Staff, I would like to thank you for your support over this past year. We look forward to continuing to provide you with great products and exceptional support in the New Year.

We wish you a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Aleks Banas | General Manager

NewsWelcome back Aleks!
The Avinet team is excited to have Aleks Banas back in the office as she resumes her role as General Manager after welcoming her baby boy Darcy in April. It hasn't taken long for Aleks to settle into her role, as new ideas for product development have already been put in place, along with plans to utilise new technologies to improve the Air Maestro user experience.

Flight & Duty App Progress Update
We have now rolled out the app to a number of beta partners for testing. So far, we have received positive reviews and are now in the final stages of testing. We anticipate that the Air Maestro app will be available on the Apple App Store early in the New Year.

The highly anticipated iOS Air Maestro app, will allow users to enter their critical timesheets and flight records offline regardless of their location or internet connectivity.

CASA Fatigue rule transition period extended
Due to extensive feedback from the aviation community, CASA has decided to extend their transition period for the Fatigue Rule (CAO 48.1) by 12 months. Operators now have until the 1st of May 2018 to transition to the provisions of Civil Aviation Order 48.1.

Although the rules have been extended, the team at Avinet maintain that they will keep this as a priority, and will continue to develop new Work Practice controls to ensure that we cater for the changes in the new and existing appendices.

eventsPACDEFF, Adelaide, 7-8 November
Nina Wedding and Bianca Stewart represented Avinet at the largest CRM, NTS and Aviation Human Factors Conference of its type in the world, hosted in our home town of Adelaide. This event was a great opportunity to meet some of our clients as well as see some fantastic presentations from our customers at Babcock and NSW Ambulance.

HAC Convention & Trade Show, Edmonton, 11-13 November 2016
Avinet made its fourth consecutive appearance (represented by Phillip Wu) at the the 21st HAC Annual Conference and Trade show. Exhibiting from stand #1618, Avinet continues to make a strong impression on the Canadian Aviation Market.

We would also like to say congratulations to Aaron from Kitchener Aero Avionics who won our plush koala and Barossa Valley wine in our business card draw.

Flight Data Monitoring in Commercial Aviation, Sydney, 21-23 November 2016
Nina also flew to Sydney to attend a course on FDM & FOQA in Commercial Aviation. The course was hosted by our customers RFDS SE and featured presentations from another Air Maestro user, Johan Swart, as well as interactive workshops from the well known David Wright. The two day trip allowed Nina to learn more about Flight Data Monitoring, as well as the opportunity to meet some some of the customers that also attended the course.

Avinet will return to the US in March 2017 for their seventh Heli-Expo show. The team expects yet another huge event as the show makes its way back to Texas. Avinet will launch the flight & duty iPad/iPhone App to the US market, and showcase the re-branded Air Maestro release. If you are planning on visiting the tradeshow, please visit us at booth #7458 which is directly across from Airbus Helicopters.

Global Training & Travel

The last two months for our Business Development Manager, Phillip Wu have certainly been very busy!

Phil departed Adelaide on the 10th November to attend the HAC conference in Edmonton. Whilst in Canada, Phil had the opportunity to visit some of our customers including Synergy Aviation (pictured below) and Air Inuit.

Following this, Phil travelled to France to train Babcock MCS France and then Babcock MCS Offshore in Aberdeen, to focus on how the Air Maestro operations modules can be used more effectively for their business. During his stay in Aberdeen, Phil worked closely with Renate Lunter to ensure that Air Maestro will be implemented efficiently for their day to day operations.

Fortunately, Phil had the following weekend off and used this time to fly to Stockholm. Although a short break, Phil managed to make the most of it by visiting the festive Christmas Markets and the Vasa Museum.

In the final week of his trip, Phil went to Denmark to train KN Helicopters and then to Babcock MCS Germany and Babcock MCS Onshore in Staverton.

After a long trip away, we're glad to have Phil return home safe and back in the office!

A Word from our Lead Developer

Avinet is in the process of implementing a new deployment tool that takes a lot of the manual work out of hot-fixing and upgrading Air Maestro sites.

Further to saving on labour it also reduces the risk of manual error and allows us to keep all clients on a recent stable update without lagging too far behind. We can then rollout more complex updates to the existing release which previously would have had to wait for the next major release. An example of this is the quick assign template tool in the roster which has recently been released.

There are also major updates coming to the scheduling (crew pairing validation) and forms (single user locking) on the horizon which should go live in the coming weeks.

Our goal is to move away from major updates and instead focus on frequent small releases. This will allow users to be able to utilise these features earlier but also provide feedback quicker and be able to shape and refine them even further.

User Conference

What to Expect:
