Announcement from the Board

The Avinet Board is pleased to announce that Aleks Banas has been selected to lead the company in the role of General Manager. Mike Mulvihill will continue as CEO until the end of June, when Aleks will assume leadership.

While Aleks has already begun the transition to this role, she will be on maternity leave as of the 18th April with an expected return date of mid-October. During the next 6 months, Aleks will remain closely involved with the team to ensure smooth running of business operations.

Aleks commenced with Avinet in May 2007 as Customer Support and Quality Manager and has since made an impact on the growth and success of the company due to her invaluable experience and focus on maintaining customer relationships. A major determining factor for Aleks' appointment was the Board's desire to appoint someone who knows the business and its customers very well.

As General Manager, Aleks will focus on strategies to work within a changing and challenging market, starting with some immediate product development and rebranding of the Air Maestro software. Part of this development will include seeking new technologies for a smarter and more competitive product.

We wish Aleks all the best in her new role as General Manager and also with the recent birth of her first child.

Surge in Sales Enquiries
After a quiet period during Christmas break, Avinet are back into the full swing of things with a significant increase in enquiries in the last couple of months. This surge shows that there is some promise of growth in some segments in the market.

Air Maestro Users Expand 30 Countries
Our customer country count has also increased to 30 after gaining our first clients from Thailand and Croatia. These two new acquisitions are a sign of an evolving industry that are adapting to regulations and looking to new technologies to manage their operations on a global scale.

Staff Member Announcements
I would like to introduce our newest Helpdesk Support team member Nina Wedding, who joined our team in March as Customer Support Analyst. Please make her feel welcome should you have an opportunity to speak to her.

On another note, Avinet wish to congratulate one of our newest support team members, Dan Le, who recently got married to his fiancée Sarah. All the best on your journey into married life!

NewsNew Avinet Website Launched
Recently, Avinet launched a redesigned website to provide improved communication and engagement with visitors. The new website design is sleek, sharp, user-friendly and responsive and can be accessed from any mobile device. The launch of the new website has been a fantastic success and has allowed us to reach a wider audience, including potential customers in new markets, while also improving functionality for existing customers. First Flight & Duty App in the works
We are particularly proud and excited to announce that development for an official Flight & Duty App has commenced! The highly anticipated app will allow users to enter their critical flight and duty information offline regardless of their location or internet connectivity. The app will initially be available on iOS only however this may extend to the Android platform based on customer feedback. The app is expected to be available on the Apple iTunes store by August 2016.

Transport Canada tightens Training controls
A proposed amendment issued by Transport Canada would see new Crew Resource Management (CRM) Training requirements imposed on the Canadian helicopter industry by 10th May 2016. Should the amendment pass, Air Maestro integrates a Recency/Currency module that can allow both examination and/or recording of qualifications by individuals as part of operational training on situational awareness, fatigue and workload management. NZ Adopts Mandatory SMS Policy
The New Zealand aviation industry will now comply with mandatory SMS adoption after recent legislation driven by ICAO, CAA and world-wide trends in safety programs across all transport sectors. The new policy aims to focus the industry on actively identifying and managing risks while still encouraging business development. eventsHeli-Expo 2016, Louisville, KY Feb 29 - March 3
Josh Miller and Bianca Stewart attended the largest rotary event on the calendar, exhibiting from stand #1618 across from the Bell Helicopter static display. Congratulations to Dilena from Aspen Helicopters who won our plush koala and iPad Mini 4 in our business card draw. The next HAI Heli-Expo was announced for March 2017 and will be Avinet's 7th consecutive attendance of the show. See you in Dallas next year!

Aerial Firefighting International (AFI) Conference 2016, Sacramento CA, 22-23 March
Bianca and Josh also attended the 13th Aerial Firefighting International Conference in March. The conference was attended by the firefighting community, Forestry Departments, Fire and Aviation Services in addition to the Departments of Agriculture to tackle issues involved with overcoming wildfires.

Upcoming Events

Rotortech 2016, Sunshine Coast, 27 - 29 May
Avinet will join forces with sister company Comunet, in addition to Tracware, to exhibit at the second Rotortech event on the Sunshine Coast. The show is expected to top previous attendance of 240 delegates and 15 Helicopter displays. If you are in the area, make sure you visit the team at stand #27. PACDEFF, Adelaide, 7-8 November
Avinet will be attending PACDEFF in November in our home town of Adelaide. PACDEFF is the largest CRM and aviation human factors conference of its type in the world with an expected audience of 320+ for 2016. More details to come.

The development team have been hard at work on the 2.14 Air Maestro release. It is scheduled for early in the second half of the year. Some of the key new features are:

Audit Dashboards – The safety dashboards released in 2.13 have had minor improvements as well as adding an entirely new dashboard to keep on top of past and in-progress audits. Keep the feedback coming on these dashboards as we intend to continue adding functionality to them as well as incorporating them into more modules of Air Maestro in future releases.

Engineering Endorsements – Air Maestro will be able to track and report upon engineer endorsements as per the categories, sub-categories and exclusions in CASR Part 66.

CAO 48.1 Instrument 2014 Updates – A register of cancellations and delays has been added which integrates with the rostering and timesheet module. This allows them to be tracked as well as determining when the delayed duty effectively starts and it’s allowable length as well as how much time free of duty is required for cancellations. This applies to appendices 2, 3 and 4.


New face at Avinet - Nina Wedding

Nina has a Bachelor of Information Technology from Flinders Uni and previously worked at Infor as a Software Developer. Nina also worked for the SA Government in IT Support and has also done some Business Management for a small primary school.

Nina spends her free time with her husband and two daughters (aged 9 and 5). They like walking their dogs on the beach, going camping when they can and visiting family.
