From the CEO

authorWelcome to our Avinet newsletter.

It has been a busy few months and not just for the Avinet team but for the entire aviation industry. Featured below are some of the prevalent topics that are worth a mention:

Avinet welcomes and returns
We welcome our newest member of the Avinet team, Nadia Wilson, who has settled in well in her role as Administrative Assistant. We also welcome back Phil Wu who has re-joined the team on a casual basis.

Our Customers - Some Statistics
As the team celebrates their 10th year and 200th customer it is worthy to note that outside of the Charter category (40.5%):

  • 19.5% of customers come from Emergency/Rescue activities
  • 16.5% from Agricultural Spraying
  • 7.0% from Airlines

The implementation of Air Maestro throughout our 26 active countries is very diverse. It is an application for all types of sectors. Yet the application has significant use outside of the aviation field, where similar criteria is required to be met by business.

International Appeal
In the current financial year, Avinet expects international revenues to surpass Australian revenues, thereby truly making Air Maestro an internationally recognised application.

Drones Legislation
After visiting tradeshows and conferences in the US, UK, NZ and Australia, I have found that there is a general consensus about UAS and the basic safety principles surrounding them; it is not a question of if a fatal accident will occur but rather when will it occur. It is time we moved quickly with legislation both in the regulated aviation community and general society, before there is a fatal accident between these UAS and piloted aircraft.

I hope that you find value in the information provided in this newsletter and should you like further information on Air Maestro please do not hesitate to contact us.

Global Training & Travel

Halifax, Nova Scotia - Canada
Recently, Mike was fortunate enough to visit one of our customers in Halifax for training and was very impressed by its rich history and architecture. Venturing out of a cold Adelaide winter to a mild and sunny 23C degree day, did not have any prejucide on his views.

Like most tourists, you learn so much about each new location you have the good fortune of visiting. Mike, for example, discovered that Halifax was the entry point into Canada for the European telegraphic cable and that it still plays a key role in the maintenance and laying of ocean cables. Cable Wharf is considered a historical centrepiece and really worth a visit.

The mixture of quaint colourful buildings, churches, grand architectural public buildings and modern glass office blocks all blend into a jigsaw of optical interest.

Halifax also has a historical connection to the fateful Titanic tragedy, which is where 150 victims recovered from the disaster are buried throughout three cemeteries, although Mike did not have a chance to visit these burial sites.

We are now putting the finishing touches on the 2.13 release which is still scheduled to be released by the end of the year.

Also whilst Air Maestro currently works reasonably well in Microsoft’s new Edge browser released in Windows 10, we are working to ensure that the next release is optimised for it. In the meantime, if you encounter issues with Edge on Windows 10, Internet Explorer 11 is still installed by default or you can install your favourite browser such as Chrome or FireFox.
